I've got a number of older movies that I encoded as AVI files with Xvid and MP3 audio. I could just re-encode them (about 20 movies), but a codec solution might take a little less time.
The problem is that when I open these AVI files (in WMP), the sound is completely messed up (like a scratching noise) and the video framerate drops way down. (The file plays fine in VLC, but I prefer to use ffdshow.)
I've got the latest ffdshow and AC3Filter installed.
The problem disappears if I set MP3 playback to disabled in the ffdshow audio configuration utility, but then I lose the ability to have my music MP3s decoded by ffdshow (which I don't want). If disable "MPEG Audio" in the AC3Filter configuration, nothing changes. If I disable PCM in the AC3Filter (just trying random things), the video loads, but the video does not play and there is no sound.
Any thoughts?
To be honest, I don't know if this an issue with ffdshow or ac3filter.
This is the graphedit graph of the video I'm trying to play:
